Oberammergau 2022 Pilgrimage to Poland, Austria, & Germany

Save the date and join Fr. Kaz Chwalek, MIC, and Fr. Kenneth Dos Santos, MIC, in a journey you will never forget. After visiting Marian Shrines and Divine Mercy sites in Poland and Austria, attend the Passion Play in Oberammergau. First performed in 1634, the inhabitants of the village promised to put on a Passion play every 10 years if the Lord would protect them from the bubonic plague. They have been putting on the Passion Play every 10 years ever since. Come and be a part of the ongoing history of their Passion Play!


Day 1: Thursday, September 15 • Depart USA
Depart on overnight flights to Warsaw.

Day 2: Friday, September 16 • Arrive in Warsaw | Bl. Jerzy Popieluszko
Upon arrival in Warsaw, meet your tour manager and transfer into the Old Town for lunch. Then, visit the Church of St. Stanislaw Kostka, containing the tomb of Bl. Jerzy Popieluszko, chaplain and martyr of the Solidarity Movement. Celebrate Mass at his Shrine (pending confirmation) followed by time for prayer and reflection.

Depart for Licheń, home of the biggest sanctuary in Poland. Upon arrival, check in to the hotel and freshen up before a welcome dinner. Overnight in Licheń.

Day 3: Saturday, September 17 • Shrine of Our Lady of Lichen
This morning, transfer to the Shrine of Our Lady of Licheń for a morning Mass. Depart to visit the Order of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a religious order of nuns founded in honor of the Annunciation in 1501 by St. Joan of France. Learn the history of the Order which now spans seven convents. Return to the Shrine of Our Lady of Licheń to discover the connection between this Shrine and the Marians of the Immaculate Conception. Enjoy ample time at leisure for prayer, reflection and to explore the church, which is the largest in Poland. Evening at leisure with dinner on own. Overnight Licheń.

Day 4: Sunday, September 18 • Our Lady of Czestochowa ‘Black Madonna’
After breakfast, depart for Czestochowa, the center of Poland’s religious life. Tour the Jasna Gora Monastery. Celebrate Mass at the Shrine housing the famous icon of the Black Madonna, Our Lady of Czestochowa, venerated as the “Queen of Poland” and has become the country’s national symbol. Enjoy time at leisure in Czestochowa, with lunch on your own. Then, depart to Kraków. Upon arrival, check into the and freshen up before a group dinner. Overnight in Kraków.

Day 5: Monday, September 19 • Auschwitz | Wadowice | Krakow
This morning, transfer to Auschwitz where St. Teresa Benedicta (Edith Stein) faced martyrdom and St. Maximilian Kolbe died after volunteering his life to spare a fellow prisoner. Afterward, travel to Wadowice, the birthplace of St. John Paul II, born there as Karol Wojtyla. Upon arrival tour and visit the family home of St. Pope John Paul II before celebrating Mass at the Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, where young Karol was baptized, confirmed, and served as an altar boy. Afterward, continue to Kraków. Check into your hotel and enjoy dinner on your own. Overnight in Kraków.

Day 6: Tuesday, September 20 • Divine Mercy Center | 'Have No Fear' Center
This morning, transfer to the Divine Mercy Center in Lagiewniki and celebrate Mass. Visit the Basilica of the Divine Mercy and see the tomb of St. Faustina Kowalska. Transfer to the “Have No Fear” Center. Return to Kraków and have lunch on your own. Tour the highlights of Kraków including Wawel Cathedral, where St. John Paul II was ordained priest and celebrated his first Mass. Enjoy a special group dinner at a local restaurant with a traditional folklore show. Overnight in Kraków.

Day 7: Wednesday, September 21 • Our Lady of Mariapocs ‘Weeping Madonna’
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and travel to Vienna, the illustrious capital of Austria. Upon arrival, visit and tour St. Stephen’s Cathedral with time to pray with the miraculous image of Our Lady of Mariapocs, “the weeping Madonna.” Celebrate Mass at the Shrine (subject to confirmation). Enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure to explore and have dinner on your own. Overnight in Vienna.

Day 8: Thursday, September 22 • Shrine of Maria Taferl | Melk Abbey | Danube Cruise
Today, experience a day trip through the gorgeous Austrian countryside. Celebrate Mass at the Shrine of Maria Taferl, a 17th-century miraculous shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows. Then, depart for Melk Abbey, a Baroque-style Benedictine abbey on the Danube River. Enjoy time for lunch on your own to explore the town. In the afternoon, transfer to the nearby town of Spitz and enjoy a scenic boat ride on the Danube River from Spitz to the village of Dürnsteinon (subject to weather conditions). Return to Vienna for dinner on your own and overnight.

Day 9: Friday, September 23 • Shrine of Our Lady of Mariazell | Heiligenkreuz Monastery
Early morning departure from Vienna to Heiligenkreuz monastery, the second-oldest Cistercian monastery in the world. Continue through the Alpine Mountains to Mariazell and celebrate Mass at the 13th-century Shrine of Our Lady of Mariazell, Austria’s National Marian Shrine. Depart to the picturesque city of Salzburg. Upon arrival, check into the hotel in Mondsee and freshen up before a group dinner. Overnight in Mondsee.

Day 10: Saturday, September 24 • Shrine of Our Lady of Maria Plain Shrine | Sound of Music Tour
After breakfast, enjoy a Sound of Music Tour, including marvelous views of the Salzkammergut region. Visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Maria Plain, home to a miraculous image of the Virgin Mary. Celebrate Mass and explore the Shrine overlooking the city of Salzburg. The rest of the day will be at leisure with dinner on own. Overnight in Mondsee.

Day 11: Sunday, September 25 • Oberammergau Passion Play
Celebrate Mass at a local church before departing for Oberammergau. Upon arrival, lunch will be provided in the village. Attend the 1st Act of the Passion Play. The history of the Passion Play goes back to the year 1634 when the village was miraculously saved from the Black Death. Now, the play is performed every decade. During intermission, have dinner and enjoy free time for shopping. Afterward, attend the 2nd Act of the Passion Play. Overnight in the Oberammergau vicinity.

Day 12: Monday, September 26 • Return to USA
Following a spiritually moving journey, check out of the hotel, celebrate a farewell Mass and transfer to the airport in Much for return flights to the USA.
