Doctor Jack
Beware of Doctor Jack,
Who fills the air
With invisible Death,
A cold glazed stare.
Upon the Rose blooming,
Her lungs filling
With life so surrounding-
Tragedy arrives.
Atmospheric Water
Turns conspiring,
And mutinous joins
The Cold unyielding.
Unholy Alliance!
Why execute
The growing red flower
With crystallized shoot?
Before its Time ... a Sentence.
Betrayed by that
Which promised to give life-
But turned to Cold Knife.
This is an unsettling poem about the Culture of Death, being imaged in untimely death of a Rose by the hands of "Jack Frost." At the same time the poem speaks tragically about those entrusted with life and healing, who use their gifts instead for destruction. "Jack" in particular refers to Jack Kevorkian, who championed to cause of physician assisted suicide.
Atmosphere
Do we Dwell under the Sea,
Or Soar within the Sky?
Sometimes, I am not sure which.
For when I gaze upon such
Trees in motion,
Their Invisible Partners
Always seek to bewitch.
This short poem comes from pondering the way in which trees blow in the wind-as if they were sea anemones under the water.
