Mary Immaculate, Star of the Sea

Father Andy Davy, MIC, pastor of St. Mary Parish in Plano, Illinois, also writes poetry. Here, we share some of his work and his commentaries on that work in the latest installment of a weekly series.

Image for the Immaculate
You are on the high seas,
And above appears a beautiful starry sky.
Suddenly a billowing
Sulfuric cloud
Spreads across the night,
Snuffing out
Little lights in its wake.

Choked sky
Nothing remains ...
Save one spot of beauty
Untouched by malice.

No ordinary star -
It is the North Star!
With one star
All that is lost
Can be found.

O Immaculate Conception,
We fly to you for refuge!

This image was given to me in my second year of priesthood, as I was celebrating Mass for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. She is the "Star of the Sea" that points us to Christ.
