For the past two or three years now, I have been blessed to be able to serve with the Liturgy Committee during the Steubenville Conferences on Main Campus. I was usually the thurifer (the server with the incense) for Mass and Adoration/processions. It was always a beautiful experience to be able to pave the way for the Lord to come into the hearts of the youth and adults at the conferences with the incense.
About a week ago, I was given a different role. I was assigned a torch bearer, not paving the way for Jesus, but following right behind Him. I admit that it was a new and different experience for me.
As we processed with Jesus around Finnegan Fieldhouse, I felt the Holy Spirit helping me to see that this is what my vocation to the priesthood should look like. Jesus should always be before me as my model. My eyes should always be fixed upon Him. He is calling me to bring His light into the darkness of this world.
If John the Baptist was the Forerunner, I will be the Postrunner.
I was blown away and nearly in tears the rest of Adoration.
Here's the thing: This isn't just my call in my vocation as a religious and, God willing, a priest one day. As Christians, this is what we are all called to be.
Is Jesus your model for daily living? Keep your eyes fixed on Him, bring His light into the world, and make disciples of all nations. Persevere in the struggle and trust that He is with you. Be a Postrunner!
O Mary, conceived without original sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!
Pray for me as I continue in my formation to priesthood. Know of my prayers for all of you. Thank you all for your prayers!
