Human trafficking. Enemies of the state and of the Church. Danger for women and children.

And the difference the Sacraments and the saints make in families and society.

All this and more isn’t just a snapshot of our daily news. They’re some of the crucial plot points in one of the more interesting forays by a Catholic writer into the young adult genre.

Ruth Apollonia’s Annabelle of Anchony series explores the fictional life of a girl from the Middle Ages, kidnapped by powerful forces arrayed against her and her family, having to make her way in a remarkably hostile, unforgiving world. Inspired by the real wars and struggles in Europe across her history, rooted in a deeply sacramental worldview, the series is a compelling example of the rich treasures in the baptized Catholic imagination.

The long-awaited third book in the series, Kingdom’s Call, is available now.

Everyone's journey
The machinations of terroristic rebels and the trials of a kingdom seemingly breaking apart may not seem like they’re something every reader can relate to, but look deeper, explains the author. “Really, it’s everyone’s journey,” said Ruth Apollonia of her protagonist’s story. “It’s God’s call for us to grow closer to Him. It’s a universal theme.”

The saints and the Sacraments play key roles throughout the series, helping to sustain the forces of good and set Annabelle on the right path at crucial moments throughout the series.

And readers are posting rave reviews.

Heart's Reliefthe second book in the series, was astounding!!!!” Rose posted on ShopMercy.org. “I am a 14-year-old girl writing to recommend the book I discovered as an uncertain 13-year-old. This book, along with the previous one, were astounding!! They are the wondrous mix between history, fantasy, and religion that is sadly not common in books for my fellow youth of today. I highly recommend this book for all ages.”

“Have read two now, can’t wait for the third,” said Connie Marie. “The continuing saga is amazing with the references to Eucharistic miracles and to the Holy Souls in Purgatory… absolutely beautiful, gripping, amazing story and I am so looking forward to book three and four and five … keep writing Ruth you have an amazing talent and a great story to tell.”

Book 3
In the third installment of the Annabelle of Anchony series, Annabelle and her family await the inevitable attack by the Demolites, who are only a Seal away from demolishing the monarchy. And with new threats arising — from disillusioned Anchonians, to Sethelians seeking justice for their king, to a foreign monarch seeking the Anchonian throne for herself — the future of Anchony looks dismal.

But amidst the bleakness, there as those who, wanting to do right by their kingdom and to heed God’s call in their lives, offer assistance unexpectedly. While others, searching deep within, make the kingdom a brighter place by healing their hearts and seeking the virtues of joyfulness, humility, love, peacefulness, and openness to do the Father’s will while relying upon the power of the Sacraments.

But during Anchony’s darkest hour, when her enemies are gripping tightly to pride and power, and it seems all justice and right is to be lost, can peace win out? For those who know and love God, can an evil action of the past be a saving grace for Anchony’s future?

Join Annabelle of Anchony and her family amidst the turmoil and strife of their kingdom being ripped apart as they take heart with their eyes set on the Kingdom of God in Kingdom’s Call.
