Unsure About Confession? Let Pope Francis Be Your Guide

The Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization has published a pastoral guide to the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

A PDF of the document is available online: Here.

The guide's release is tied to the "24 Hours for the Lord" initiative called for by Pope Francis. In his bull of indiction for the extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis called upon dioceses around the world to offer extended times for Confessions on March 4-5. For more information on opportunities for Confession, please check with your local parish.

The guide's usefulness, or course, extends beyond the "24 Hours for the Lord" initiative.

Indeed, its stated aim is to offer "assistance to the individual penitent to prepare his or her meeting with the priest in Confession in a conscientious way and seeking to overcome any inner resistance."

The pastoral guide includes the teaching of the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church on the sacrament, suggestions for preparing for the sacrament, texts from saints and popes, and reflections by G. K. Chesterton, among others.
