Thanksgiving 2008 at the Marian Scholasticate

by Br. Angelo Casimiro, MIC

This year, our brothers from Steubenville, Ohio (Fr. Donald Calloway, MIC; Fr. John Larson, MIC; and Br. Thaddaeus Lancton, MIC) joined us at the Marian Scholasticate in Washington, D.C., for Thanksgiving.

The celebration began the night before Thanksgiving with a delicious pre-Thanksgiving dinner made by our novices Steven Ybarra, Matthew Holladay, and Allen Alexander. After dinner, some of the brothers watched the "highly acclaimed" film, "Muppets in Space," which made Br. Andy Davy and Kermit T. Frog delightfully happy.

On Thanksgiving the following day, the community celebrated Holy Mass together and gave thanks for all of God's blessings. Afterward, we all headed over to have Thanksgiving dinner at the convent of the Oblate Sisters of the Most Holy Eucharist. Thanksgiving this year was a great time for brotherhood and community!

December 11 is the anniversary of the founding of the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception. On this day in 1670, St. Stanislaus Papczyński left the Piarist order and made his oblatio, his self-offering, to defend the Immaculate Conception.

Stories about his selfless generosity of heart are the chief reasons St. Nicholas, feast day Dec. 6, is so affectionately revered.

Saint Cecilia's feast on Nov. 22 is a good day to reflect on what music is and does - particularly sacred music.
