On Rest and Motion

Father Andy Davy, MIC, pastor of St. Mary Parish in Plano, Illinois, also writes poetry. Here, we share some of his work and his commentaries on that work in the 12th installment of a weekly series.

Moving Still

What is Rest?
Is it to stand still?
Perhaps in this life ...
To the one who keeps moving best!
But what of one,
Who remains "stand-still"?
Fie! for growing fun,
A monotonous curséd thrill!
Standing brings us
Decrepitude, while
Moving brings us
Exhaustion.
Our earthly reign
In civil war
Each side gaining
Despair and pain.
To Move or to Stand
Is not the question;
Neither choice brings
The rest of Man.
But in heaven's time
These finite enemies
Will achieve their
Harmonious rhyme.
Thus "Standing" and
"Moving" shall Embrace.
Wedding's First
Dance of Rest
We will forever
Face.

Here's a poem that came to me sitting under the trees at sunset, thinking about the limits of temporality and the gift of eternity. I hope it gives a little rest :-).

We can turn to Mary to aid us in honoring Jesus’ Most Precious Blood during the month of July, for our Lord’s Body and Blood, by which we are all saved, comes from Our Lady.
