Saint Bernadette Lived in a Prison?

The feast day of St. Bernadette Soubirous (1844-1879) is April 16. At the age of 14, between Feb. 11, 1858 and July 16, 1858, Bernadette had 18 visions of Our Lady, the Immaculate Conception, in a local grotto near the bank of the River Gave, near Lourdes, France.

After the Soubirous family encountered financial troubles, they moved into a former jail cell. It was not pleasant. Father Joe Roesch, MIC, shares about this time in St. Bernadette's life from right outside Le Cachot (the prison).
