The Same

"Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved ...." - Mk 16:16

Today's Gospel revisits some of the opportunities for the apostles to believe that Jesus is risen. Mary Magdalene, who saw Him first, tells them He is alive. The two disciples who were walking and later recognized Jesus told them. Now, Jesus comes to the eleven themselves, and He rebukes them for their disbelief and hardness of heart (see Mk 16:14).

But now that they have seen and believed, He gives them the commission that the others have already been performing: "Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature" (Mk 16:15).

The Risen Lord gives the job of evangelization to the very ones who did not want to believe until they had seen.

Who better to go convince others?

The same Jesus who comes to the disciples in this reading also comes to us through the priest in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Receive this Sacrament as part of your observance of Divine Mercy Sunday.

NOTE: Today's vigil of Divine Mercy Sunday delivers the same graces under the same conditions as Divine Mercy Sunday.

Prayer: Lord, help me to trust in You and to see Your mercy in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
