Marian seminarian Br. Michael, MIC, graduated with a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Franciscan University of Steubenville on May 9, 2015. He shares some thoughts with us:
My desire to go to Franciscan University first started while I was working at EWTN. Several of my co-workers were Franciscan graduates, and for lack of better words there was something different about them - something that set them apart. They had joy, dynamism to their faith, and a desire to evangelize that I admired and wanted for myself. I wanted what they had! I considered going to Franciscan for a short time, but I realized there was just no way I could quit my job and go back to school.
Little did I realize that the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception send their men in formation to Franciscan University and that God would grant my heart's desire to go to Franciscan University through answering the call to my vocation. God is never outdone in generosity!
Words cannot express how much my time at Franciscan University has meant to me and especially to my faith life. Simply put, Franciscan was a place of encounter for me. It is where I encountered the Holy Spirit in a real and powerful way and where I encountered Jesus Christ through my professors, classmates, and household brothers.
It was at Franciscan where I encountered the Word of God in my Scripture classes, the Personalism of St. John Paul II in Theology of the Body, the philosophy of Dietrich von Hildebrand, and a community of faith that inspired me to keep striving for holiness.
Franciscan University has truly transformed my life and has helped form me into a better disciple of our Lord, with a deep desire to reach out to others and share the Good News!
Having recently completed my studies at Franciscan University, I am filled with gratitude for the many graces and personal growth that I received while there. I realize that my time there - and the growth that came as a result - would not have been possible without the sacrifices of so many faithful Marian Helpers who prayed and supported us financially. What has especially come to mind are those Marian Helpers who may never have had the opportunity to go to college and yet, through their generosity, they've made it possible for me to go. For this, I am filled with much gratitude.
Through their prayers and financial support, Marian Helpers make it possible for Marian seminarians to be formed as priests, who in turn, help both Marian Helpers and the faithful of the Church, through the Sacraments and the Word, to become the saints that God created them to be. It is a beautiful partnership that benefits the whole Church!
