An Encouraging Word

Father Andy Davy, MIC, pastor of St. Mary Parish in Plano, Illinois, also writes poetry. Here, we share some of his work and his commentaries on that work in the latest installment of a series.

The Cold Rains Bitter

To doubt without sin
are the cold rains bitter,
That scandalize the fields in
November’s winter.

The farmer may stand
In shine of spring rain;
Yet come late rainfall,
He runs from dark iced spray.

Don’t forsake the seed,
When troubled faith is born.
For without late rains that come.
New life’s chance is shorn.

Father Andy says, "It is a little jarring, but is meant to encourage those struggling in depression, suffering, and tragedy."
