Saint Dominic Savio (1842-1857) - whose feast day we celebrate on May 6 (formerly March 9) - wasn't long for this world. In fact, he's the youngest non-martyr to be canonized in the Catholic Church.
He was 14 years old, a student of St. John Bosco, and studying to be a priest when he became ill, possibly from pleurisy, a painful inflammation around the lungs.
Pope Pius XI described St. Dominic Savio as "small in size, but a towering giant in spirit."
Here's how Fr. Dan Cambra, MIC, describes him.
