"[E]ven if you do not believe me, believe the works ..." - Jn 10:38

The more Jesus reveals Himself to be the Son of God, the more some of His listeners seek to kill Him. Jesus knows this. Yet He persists in these dialogues. Why? We know He isn't arguing to talk them out of killing Him. He has already shown that He can escape; it is not His time. He is continuing to reach out to save souls.

In today's Gospel, Jesus urges this group of Jews to examine His works:

If I do not perform my Father's works, do not believe me; but if I perform them, even if you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may realize [and understand] that the Father is in me and I am in the Father (Jn 10:37-38).

A similar plea appears in St. Faustina's Diary (emphasis added):

"[E]ven chosen souls['] ... relationship [with Me] is, in certain ways, imbued with mistrust. Oh, how much that wounds My Heart! Remember My Passion, and if you do not believe My words, at least believe My wounds" (379).

In less than a week, Jesus once more will make this same plea. When? At the Last Supper (see Jn 14:10-11).

Prayer: Lord, in this week before Good Friday, help me to grow in trust in You.
