The Plan

"Let there be light ... ." - Gen 1:3

"In the beginning." Most people could identify this portion from one of today's readings as the first words of the Bible. How many remember what comes next?

In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth - and the earth was without form or shape, with darkness over the abyss and a mighty wind sweeping over the waters - Then God said: Let there be light, and there was light (Gen 1:1-3).

God has a plan. He's in charge. In today's readings, we see He works through the patriarchs Abraham and Moses. He speaks through the prophets Isaiah and Ezekiel. All this is done out of His great mercy, helping all to progress to salvation.

Today, Holy Saturday, we celebrate God's plan. First, our churches are dark and the tabernacle is empty. Then, the lights are lit, and we rejoice, "Glory to God in the Highest!" Jesus, the Light of the World, is risen! Our Merciful Savior lives!

The whole universe proclaims His mercy. Rejoice!

Prayer: Glory to God in the highest!
